Senior Projects: Passion Project
Packaging Design for Cryptid Oracle Card Deck
Rationale
For my passion project, I decided to gain some experience in brand packaging design. Packaging is a class I was very eager to take but as it ended up getting cut, I figured nothing was stopping me from creating my own. Instead of making up a fictitious product for this assignment, I decided to collaborate with another artist at Edinboro, Renn Stuckey who is an Illustration Major. This way, I had the opportunity for some make-shift client work, as I was working with their aesthetic preferences while designing the packaging. Their project, Cryptid Oracle Card Deck, is a collection of illustrated cards depicting different mythical creatures. Renn Stuckey illustrated the art work on all 32 cards, and I helped to create a photoshop template to place typography and borders. Along with my work in formatting the cards, I designed a box that the cards would be packaged in. My inspiration for this design was based heavily off the cards, both front and back, that Renn had drawn. I researched common Tarot Card Box design to get a better picture of what type of material was needed, and I drafted a short paragraph explained the product and the illustrator.
